Garrison Keillor is best known as the creator and longtime host of A Prairie Home Companion, which he led for forty years. He’s the author of numerous works of fiction and comedy and the inventor of Lake Wobegon—a mythical town where “all the children are above average.” His own upbringing, however, was far less idyllic: he grew up in a small evangelical separatist community where the end of the world was believed to be imminent.

Now happily busy in retirement, Keillor has written a memoir and a book of limericks, is currently at work on a musical and a Lake Wobegon screenplay, and continues to produce The Writer’s Almanac, sent daily to free Internet subscribers.

“Fans laughed, applauded, and sang along throughout Sunday night’s two-hour show.” — Jeff Baenen, AP News

“His shows can, for a couple of hours, transform an audience of even so-called coastal elites into a small-town community, with an intimacy only radio—and its podcast descendants—can achieve.” — Chris Barton, Los Angeles Times

“[Keillor is] an expert at making you feel at home with his low-key, familiar style. Comfortable is his specialty.” — Betsie Freeman, Omaha World-Herald
